Well, spring is just around the corner. It is beautiful and warm, just lovely enough to lure you into wanting to eagerly embrace summer, but we know this is just a lovely tease. Or, it should just be that, a tease. We’ve been enduring four years of drought and in 2013, these conditions were very similar, a great winter with lots of snow, and prospects for a good water year. Alas, the warm weather came and the storms dried up. So, while we are truly enjoying this lovely weather, we’re eagerly awaiting the next change in the weather pattern and hoping for more snow and rain here.
But, this lovely weather has not gone unappreciated. We’ve taken advantage to get out and start working the property, enjoying our baby goats, and looking to see how we can better maximize our property for our benefit and enhancing our yields. However, let’s be honest, the last two years we’ve forgone the garden and so we’re getting our hands dirty again, which is a very good thing.

We’ve started working on getting things ready to pull new field fencing around the garden. That will be completed over the next couple weeks along with a small greenhouse so we can transition starters out and get more of our plants started than relying on either direct sow or purchasing plants. I’m in the process of working on putting together the lay out for the garden to maximize our space, yields, and workability of the plot.

In the meantime, the goats and uncle sheep have been having fun roaming the property and the dogs are making sure everyone is safe and happy. So, here we go. La Ferme Bon Rea is back in business again.
